Volunteering saves lives

Volunteering is the heart and soul of any rescue organisation. At Hisses to Purrs, whether you're fostering cats and kittens, picking up donations, organising fundraisers or answering calls for help - each role is part of the vital puzzle that keeps us being able to reduce the unowned cat population in the south. Volunteer Opportunities

Becoming a foster carer

Becoming a foster carer means providing a safe, secure space for cats and kittens in need. Whether that's a spare bedroom, bathroom, laundry or another available space - opening your heart and home to cats in need is one of the most rewarding things you can do. While you provide the space, patience and love, Hisses to Purrs provides all supplies including food, litter, parasite treatments, veterinary care and anything else you may need on your fostering journey.

When deciding if fostering is for you, please keep in mind that Hisses to Purrs only deals with street cats and kittens meaning that they will often hiss, spit, growl and swipe at people when they first arrive into care. They may have flu or other illnesses as well.

If you are experienced in fostering, or feel you are up for the challenge of socialising street cats and kittens please get in touch! If you feel fostering isn't right for you, that's ok too! Read below about the other ways you can make a meaningful difference as part of the Hisses to Purrs team.

Help Us at Local Markets

Hisses to Purrs attends local craft markets across the southern suburbs throughout the year to raise funds for our rescue cats' vet care and daily needs. We always need extra hands for setting up our stall, selling our merchandise, and packing down. If you love chatting with the community and want to help, please get in touch!

Host Fundraising BBQs

Sausage sizzles at Bunnings or local community markets are an amazing way to raise vital funds and we would love to have a team of people who can help us host charity BBQs so we can save more local street cats. If you’re enthusiastic and think you can flip a sausage for a good cause, we would love to hear from you!

Rescue Administration

Running a cat rescue involves a lot of behind-the-scenes paperwork. Whether it is entering details into our database or helping with daily administrative tasks, having an admin whiz to lend a hand would be a dream come true! If you are organised and want to help street cats from the comfort of your own home, please contact us.

Cat Transport & Vet Runs

Appointments with veterinarians for desexing the cats and kittens in care is a big part of being a volunteer, but scheduling can sometimes be tricky. Having a reliable volunteer to help with vet drop-offs and pick-ups would give us incredible flexibility. It would even allow us to work with wonderful, rescue-friendly vets slightly further away! All you need is a car, a valid licence, and a willingness to safely transport our foster cats and kittens in the mornings and/or afternoons.
